Concrete Block Masonry for Commercial Construction
Concrete masonry units are used in a wide range of building assemblies, including partition walls, reinforced walls, elevator shafts and service enclosures. The appropriate block thickness, reinforcement, grout, support and connections depend on the structural design and project specifications.
Reinforced and Grouted CMU
Where shown on the engineered drawings, we install reinforcing steel, dowels and grout in designated block cores. We coordinate wall layout, control joints, openings and interfaces with adjacent construction to support the specified assembly.
Fire-Rated and Demising Walls
CMU is commonly specified for fire-separation assemblies in commercial and multi-family buildings. The required fire-resistance rating depends on the complete tested or code-recognized assembly, including wall thickness, penetrations and detailing—not the block alone.
Elevator Shafts, Service Rooms and Infill
Our masonry scope can include elevator shaft walls, mechanical room enclosures and block infill where doors or openings are modified. Existing-building work is assessed against site conditions and the approved construction documents.
Block Repairs and Commercial Alterations
We can remove and replace damaged concrete block, rebuild localized sections and complete masonry infill as part of commercial renovations. Structural cracking, movement or moisture problems may require investigation and an engineered repair detail before construction.
